The Zchus Project
I would like to introduce something I'm calling The Zchus Project. As we know, when
we learn in the zchus, or merit, of somebody who is in need, that can help 'tip
the scales' in their favour. We currently have over 330 subscribers who learn over
a small dvar torah every week. It would be nice if that learning was done in the
zchus of people who need it.
So, what's the Zchus Project? Right now on the website, you can login under 'Manage
Account' on the left hand menu and begin adding any names of people who are ill,
going into surgery, looking for a spouse, or looking to have children. Those names
will be kept in a database online, where you can add/edit/delete at any time. Every
week, when the dvar torah is sent out, the server will attach a different list of
5 names or so at the end of the dvar torah, so everybody can 'have them in mind',
when they read it over.
Now, in order to sign up, you need to be a subscriber to the site, know your password,
the person's full English and Hebrew names (including mother's first Hebrew name),
and why we are learning for them. If you do not know your password, there is an
option on the login page
which will email it to you. On the weekly dvar torah ONLY
the person's Hebrew name and reason will be displayed. The English name will remain
completely confidential.
Please keep two things in mind.
1) Since I don't want everybody receiving tons of names every week, the site will
generate five names (or so) per email. So, you may or may not see your person(s)
name(s) on your dvar torah, but some other people will. Don't worry.
2) In order that the list not grow out of control. I.e. if somebody DID find a spouse
and the name does not get removed from the list. I have put a 'time limit' of one
month (or four dvrei torah) on each person. When a person has one week left, you
will receive an email informing you of this, and you can go to the site to add more
time. More time can be added on whenever you want, but only in 'shots' of one month,
maximum. If the record is 2 weeks past its expiration, it will be removed from the
list, but you can always add it back on at any time.
Now, if anybody has a better name then "The Zchus Project", please tell me. I was
thinking of naming it something 'neater' like, Operation: Thundercats or Project
Excelsior, but it doesn't really go with the idea of the project.
Okay, I think I've covered everything. If anybody has any problems, questions, or
suggestions, PLEASE feel free to email me. If there are other suggestions for the
'Reason' Category (which you'll see on the site), please email it to me, and if
it makes sense, I'll add it on.
In the meantime, Frum.org members can login
now, and beginning adding names to the list. If there are any questions, please
feel free to contact me.
